По сравнению с PIC, APIC обладает следующими преимуществами: 1) PIC не понимает мультипроцессорных конфигураций. 2) PIC поддерживает не более 16 IRQ, а APIC-контроллер держит 24 прерывания, но теоретически их может быть до 64. 3) APIC многие операции обслуживания прерывания исполняет аппаратно, что ускоряет систему.
